Groom Killer

(colored and black and white finals. ink, gouache and photoshop)
i am doing a series of illustrations based on the supernatural beings that people have claimed to have sensed or seen on the horse farm that i grew up on. this piece is based on the ghost dubbed "groom killer" or "man killer". we had (she has moved on apparently) this ghost of a mad horse in the third aisle of the main barn who some believe was the spirit of a mare that had killed acouple of employees back in the day before we owned it (the farm is over a hundred years old).
i had an interesting time with this piece, i was encouraged to be more loose with my ink work so i was kind of out of my comfort zone...i think it turned out ok.

Love Hurts

third narrative assignment. we had to choose a life event that presented us with a strong emotion, so i chose 'surprised' as my subject matter. these two sequential illustrations depict the first time my ferret o'malley bit me, the little ninja came out of nowhere, latched onto my thumb and wouldnt let go. i didnt want to do anything depressing especially since i was already focusing on a painful memory for my life writing class (short memoir assignment). it just would have been too much to deal with so instead i chose something that hurt but at the same time was alittle funny.

i havent worked with lino since...grade 9? i remember the process and my print back then didnt turn out very well, though i still have the lino somewhere in my room back home (its a snake design).
this particular project is for my media methods and materials class, we had to interpret spring. spring to me means being back home on the farm with the arrival of foals. though i had some frustration cutting away the lino i still had fun, especially when it came down to the printing part :)

we had to create a woodblock print effect using gouache and ink, i think this piece is a decent accomplishment considering the fact i had never attempted anything like this before. i hope to do more work using this effect in the future, twas very fun.

i didnt get any work done this past weekend, because i forgot my supplies when i left for my bf's cottage, and i feel like shit about it. unfortunately i also can not work on it today because im going to be in hamilton possibly all day...ugh. hopefully tomorrow i guess.

the weekend wasnt bad, friday nite was...awkward, but the rest of the weekend was quite nice (excluding the mosquitoes), i did some reading and alittle drawing in my tiny moleskin (because that and a pencil was all i had for art supplies *smacks forehead*) above our my favs that i drew.

i havent been on here for awhile so i figured that i might as well post alittle update since i will most-likely not have access to a comp for about a week (mine died so i have been bumming off other ppls.)
so lets see...i saw 'Angels and Demons' the other night. it was ok but ridiculously predictable. however it was worth it for all the Bernini sculptures.
i got the second script for VVV from tom and will hopefully get a chance to do some work for it this week.
and ya, i have an interview this afternoon for an inking job for another webcomic *fingers crossed*.

Vampires

i managed to accomplish 8 panel roughs for the first script to 'Vinny the Vegan Vampire' (VVV) yesterday, and will hopefully finish the remaining 8 panels today (if willingly there are no distractions *cough simon cough*)
also in vampire news i may be illustrating the book cover to a vampire based story, nothing is for certain yet but fingers crossed.
